and piston ring must be slide in the cylinder with a minimum of friction loss.
2. Piston
and piston ring must have enough to take the punishing pressures and
temperatures of the combustion process.
3. Piston
and piston ring must be minimum weight so as to keep inertia losses down.
4. Piston
and piston ring must be a cross section sufficiently large to provide an
adequate heat path so excessive piston head temperatures will not occur.
5. They
must be able to exercise adequate oil control.
6. Piston
and piston ring must be minimum clearance with the cylinder wall so as to
minimize blow by.
7. Piston
and piston ring must change in size and shape very little as a result of
temperature changes.
8. Piston
and piston ring resist adequately the bending forces imposed by combustic
pressures.
9. They
must be highly wear and scuff resistant for long life.
