Classification of Structure Machine Tools

Classification of structure machine tools: According to purpose structure of machine tools are classified as 1.       Bed, frame works. 2.       Bases bed plates. 3.       Housing, boxes, columns etc. 4.       Casing and covers.                                        Figure: Open structure machine tool  By following manufacturing method structure of machine tool is defined as  1.       Welded 2.       Partly welded 3.       Cast 4.       Partly cast By following the transmission of ...

Requirements of a Feed Gearbox

Depending on the use of the machine tool, the feed gearbox and the feed mechanism as a whole is required to process 1.       A number of feed steps. 2.       A range of feeds. 3.       Absolute values of the rates of feed. 4.       Type of feed series. 5.       The nature of the feed motion. 6.       Type of drive from spindle or form a separate electric motor. 7.       Required accuracy of the feed rates. 8.       Permissible accumulated error of certain transmissions. 9.       Loads applied to the feed gearbox 10.     Frequency with which the feeds are to be changed.                    ...

Gear Drive System

A single pulley all gear spindle drive system is preferred to a cone pulley drive. The advantages are in contary to the increasing cost. 1.       A high power transmission because of high speed belt drive. 2.       Quick speed change through levers, Speed changing takes partically no time, if pre-selector system is designed.  3.       Possibility of individual drives, which avoid weaker counter shaft. 4.       Belt life is enhanced, because it is not shifted. 5.       Compact and thus saves space. Requires less floor spoace. Thus such a gear system can be housed in the headstock of a machine, where the motor can be placed at the bottom.                          The Advantage of Cone Pulle...
