MT ( HEAVY) SHOP, Vertical lathe machine, Center lathe machine, Horizontal boring machine, Jig boring machine, Mechanical planer

In BITAC heavy machine shop we find some machine. There are-
   1.Vertical lathe machine
    2. Center lathe machine
    3.  Horizontal boring machine
    4. Jig boring machine
    5. Mechanical planer ( KANEKO PLANER )

                                               Figure: Vertical lathe machine 1

1)Vertical lathe machine: The vertical lathe is one of the most important machines in any workshop. It is called so as the axis of the lathe chuck is vertical. Here job move clockwise. It is possible to this machine that all the lathe operation except thread cutting. The vertical lathe is very heavy and it is operate very heavy job which is impossible to operate by the Center lathe machine. In a turret many cutting tools can be attached at a time. Boring operation also possible by this machine. Square or hexagonal job can not be machined.

Main parts of a vertical lathe machine :

1.      Bed & Body
2.      Chuck
3.      Carriage : – horizontal , vertical
4.      Turret
5.      Lead screw
6.      Feed rod
7.      switch or control board
8.      Raset
9.      Operations : Tuning, Facing, Knurling, Taper turning,          Boring.

    2) Center lathe machine : The center lathe machine used to turn and cut metal. There mechanism is same but there speed is different. All of the center lathe is gear attachment. There are four lathe attachment-

1.      The help of compound rest
2.       The help of tail stock offset
3.      The help of taper attachment
4.      The help of tool forming

When mm thread is cutting than tool form by 55 degree angle, When inch thread is cutting than tool form by 60 degree angle, When square thread is cutting than tool form by 90 degree angle.

Principal parts of a lathe machine  :
1)     Bed
2)     Headstock
3)     Tailstock
4)     Carriage
5)     Feed  & Thread-cutting mechanism
6)     Tool post
7)     Live centre
8)     Dead centre
  10)  Spindle.

Operations : Facing, Knurling, Taper turning, Straight tuning, Internal thread cutting, External thread cutting, Parting, Necking.

Some lathe attachment :

   1.Taper attachment
     2. Relieving or backing- off attachment
     3.Milling attachment
     4.Steady rest
     5.Folower rest
     6.Grinding attachment

3)  Horizontal boring machine: Machine consists of high weight capacity. Its main mechanism is boring but it also can drill and internal thread. In this machine it is possible to cutting taper by tool form. Here two type of bed (1) Longitudinal bed which length 1200 mm, (2) Cross bed which length 800 mm. Here table move 0-360 degree angle. Here feed is given tool and job. Here two horizontal boring machine is situated.

Capacity :- Maximum 11 inch and minimum 3mm diameter bore.

       Main parts :

(1)  Bed
(2)  Column
(3)  Carrage
(4)  Face plate
(5)  Tail stock
(6)  Head stock
  (7)Drill chuck

Operation :- Boring, Facing, Drilling, Gear cutting (large spur gear, bevel gear & worm gear).

Product :- Gear & Gear box, Pump, Engine head, T pipe, Elbow pipe, Square block

.
4) Jig boring machine : In jig boring machine table moving only 90 degree angle. It can cut internal thread. Maximum boring diameter is 1 ft. Cleaning the machine don’t use compressed air.

Main parts :
   1.Bed
   2. Table
   3. Column
   4. Spindle head

Operation :- Boring, Facing, Drilling, Reaming.

5) Mechanical planer (KANEKOPLANER):

Planer is a large machine that is designed for producing flat surfaces on a piece of work. A planer is designed with a stationary housing for holding tool heads and a table with a reciprocating movement for holding the work, thus the work is moved against the cutting tool. A shaper differs from a planer in that the work is held stationary and the cutting tool is moved across the work. The planer is a large machine design to do jobs that would be too large too awkward for a shaper. Here feed is given in cutting tool. It’s main power come from belt. A planer cutting only one way.

Operation : Slot cutting, gear pinion- angle preparing, grinding and parting

Turbine:

“Equalizer connection is needed in lap winding armature but not in wave winding “ why ?

The equivalent circuit of a four point – pole dynamo with a simplex winding. The voltage induced in each path is assumed to both to be same and should be if the reluctance of each magnetic path is the same, so that the lines of flux cut by each inductor of each path are the same. However wear of the bearings or deflection of the armature shaft may cause the armature to be closer to some poles and farther from others, thus changing the length of the air gap, and therefore the reluctance of the magnetic circuits of the poles is not identical. This factors cause the voltage in the materials making up the magnetic circuit. These factors cause the voltage in each parallel path differ, and the unequal voltages in turn cause flow of a circulatingcurrent through the windings and brushes , undue heating of the armature and waste the power. To reduce the circulating current, points on the winding which should be at the same potentials are brought to the same potentials by connecting them with …

Boiler

Boiler

Boiler: A steam boiler is usually a closed vessel made of steel. Its function is to transfer the heat produced by the combustion of fuel to water and ultimately to generate steam.
Types of boiler:
           1. Fire tube or smoke tube boiler            2. Water tube boiler

                                          Figure: Boiler
Fire tube boiler: In fire tube steam boilers, the flames and hot gases, produced by the combustion of fuel pass through the tubes which are surrounded by water. Fire tube boilers are generally used for relatively small steam capacities and low to medium steam pressure. As a guideline fire tube boilers are completive for steam rates up to 12000kg/h and pressures up to 18 kg/cm².Fire tube boilers are available for operation with oil, gas or solid fuel.

Why a dc generator fails to build up voltage?

Differentiate among progressive die, compound die and combination die.

Progressive die: The dies which performed two or more operations at different stages every time the ram descends is known as Progressive die.
The principle advantage of Progressive die is in the number of operations that can be achieved with one handling of the stock strip. The main disadvantage is that work pieces may become “dished” as they pushed through the die as they generally have very little support.

Compound die: A compound die differs from a progressive die in that it performs two or more cutting operations during one stroke of the press at one station only.

Compound dies are slower in operation than progressive dies but they have advantages for certain jobs, especially where tolerance are close (1)the cutting operation, by the action of the knockout plate ,ensures flatness of the blank.2 Large parts can be blanked in a smaller press if compound dies rather than progressive dies areused.
Combination dies:A die in which a cutting operation is combined with a noncutting operation …
