Describe the strap clamp with advantages

Strap Clamp: The simpliest and probably most commonly used clamp is the strap clamp. All strap clamps employ the principles of levers. The most important feature is that the clamping bar can be slid onto and off of the workpiece for easy workpiece removal.A compression spring between the base clamping bar holds the bar in position when the clamp bar is loosened. The pillar and heel pin, rests in a groove on the under side of the bar to prevent it from turning when the clamping bar is loosen .                                             Advantages of Strap Clamp: The talked of topics of the merits of this type of clamp are stated below- Ø The design of the strap clamp is the simpliest one. Ø If the height of the workpiece varies, strap clamp can hold it without any p...

What are the basic rules of applying clamping force?

Clamp:    Clamp is a basic element of workholder. The action of pressing the workpiece against the locating surface and hold it against the forces acting upon it is known as clamping. Basic rules of applying clamping forces: Ø Clamping force should be directed towards the nest or locating surfaces. Ø They should be arranged in such a way that the thrust of cutting tool is at a required distance from the clamp. Ø Clamping forces are to be applied on the heavy and strengthy portion of the workpiece. Ø Clamping device should be designed in such a way that it would act for the specific and the correct work.   The above discussed points of rules of applying the clamping forces should be maintained mandatorily otherwise workpiece on which operation to be performed may collapse.
