Classification of Centrifugal Pump
On
the basis of characteristics features, the centrifugal pumps are classified as
follows
1.
Types of Casting
a.
Turbine pump or diffusion pump
b.
Volute pumps
2.
Liquid Handled
a.
Open impeller pump
b.
Semi open impeller pump or Non clog pump
c.
Closed impeller pump
3.
Number of entrances to the impeller
a.
Double entry or double section pump:
Watre can be admitted both side of the impeller,
axial thrust is naturalized.
b.
Single entry or single section pump:
Water can be admitted only one site of the impeller
4.
Working Head:
a.
High centrifugal pump
b.
Medium lift centrifugal pump
c.
Low lift centrifugal pump
5.
Number of impeller per shaft:
a.
Multi-stage centrifugal pump:
It has two or
more impellers and pressure is built in steps. It is genrally used in high
working heads. And number of stage depends on the head required.
b.
Single –stage centrifugal pump:
It has one
impeller usually low lift pump.
6.
Relative direction of flow through the impeller:
a.
Mixed flow pump
b.
Axial Flow pump
c.
Radial flow pump
